GEAR UP ( Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness of Undergraduate Programs)
The GEAR UP program is designed to significantly increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post secondary education. GEAR UP provides six- or seven-year grants to partnerships to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools and through the first year of college. The services include: providing information regarding financial aid for post secondary education to participating students in the cohort, encouraging student enrollment in rigorous and challenging curricula and coursework, and improving the number of participating students who obtain a secondary school diploma and complete applications for and enroll in a program of post secondary education. GEAR UP funding can also be used to provide scholarships to students.
